Food to Go

I’m busy.  You’re busy.  We all seem to be on the go, all the time.  I find the toughest part about being out and about constantly is packing or finding healthy foods.  I have a few staple must-haves for my book-bag (granola, apples, trail mix) but what else can I reach for at the grocery store, or even if stuck buying a snack at Wawa?

  • Fruit: apple, banana, orange, kiwi, grapes, mangoes pieces, etc
  • Veggies: carrots, snap or snow peas, green beans, radishes, peppers, summer squash (yep, raw!)
  • Lara Bars
  • Fruit smoothie drinks
  • Trail mix (check label for hidden high fructose corn syrup!)
  • Nuts: almonds, cashews, peanuts, etc.
  • Dried fruits
  • Granola/granola bars
  • Homemade popcorn: place kernels in a brown paper bag with a dash of healthy oil like olive oil, microwave, sprinkle with herbs and spices
  • Whole grain crackers
  • Whole grain pretzels

Hot summer day? How about some frozen grapes?  They are natural mini popsicles—kids will love them!

The skins on kiwi’s are edible—I like to take them to the airport for a tasty side to my peanut butter and jelly.

Stuck buying food at a grocery store?  How about the salad bar?  I’m a label reading junkie because it’s the only way to truly know what you are about to consume. Check the ingredients—the less processing the better!
